Here Are The Major Nigerian Newspaper Headlines For Monday, 4th February 2019

1. Atiku weeps over widespread endorsement

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, says he has been moved to tears over the widespread endorsement he has received ahead of Nigeria‘s Presidential election.

Naija News reports that Abubakar, who is a former Vice President of Nigeria, made this comment on Sunday in a statement personally signed by him and sent to our newsroom.

2. Tinubu breaks silence on impeachment plot against Ambode

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has described the move to impeach Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, as a “conflict between the executive and the legislature” in the state.

Naija News reports that the leaders of the APC in Lagos met on Sunday, where the conflict between the governor and the lawmakers was resolved at a special Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC) meeting held in Marina, Lagos.

3. Biafra: why I ran away from Nigeria like Mandela – Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says he ran away from Nigeria like Nelson Mandela because President Muhammadu Buhari sent the Nigerian military to his house to kill him.

4. Crashed Osinbajo helicopter not part of our fleet – NAF

The Nigerian Air Force has debunked the rumours making rounds, suggesting that the Augusta AW139 Helicopter involved in a mishap in Kabba, Kogi, on Saturday, February 2 while conveying Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, belongs to the Nigerian Air Force.

The Force maintained that the crashed helicopter does not belong to the Force nor the Presidential Air Fleet (011 PAF). The NAF stated that the crashed helicopter was not operated by the force and has no connection with the Force piloting it.

5. FG paid LGs N45m to ‘purchase’ people for Buhari’s rallies – Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima, a spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign, says the Federal Government empowers Local Government Areas in the country with N20 million to N45 million to purchase crowd for President Muhammadu Buhari’s rallies.

Naija News reports that Galadima made this allegation on Sunday when he appeared on Politics Today, a political talk show on TV.

6. Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu says PDP’s Atiku is from Cameroon

The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, Atiku Abubakar is from Cameroon.

7. 2019 Elections: do not campaign in Rivers, Gov. Wike warns APC

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against campaigning in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.

The outspoken governor also accused the APC of only campaigning because of their planned reliance on state violence to manipulate the results of elections.

8. Plane of missing player Emiliano Sala found

The aeroplane that was carrying Emiliano Sala was on Sunday found in the English Channel, following a two-week search for the aircraft that was carrying the footballer.

Sala was aboard the Piper Malibu N264DB aircraft on January 22 as he flew from Nantes to Wales after completing a 15m pounds ($19.8m) transfer to Cardiff City.

9. Oshiomhole reveals why retired generals want to oust Buhari

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole has accused retired generals in the country of plotting to end the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He made this known while speaking at a rally held at Malam Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state.

10. Bomb threat shuts Australia airport

Queensland state police officials have revealed that one of Australia’s busiest international airports have was been shut down due to a bomb threat.

The passengers at the airport were threatened when a man brandished a knife and made a bomb threat at a food joint.
