1. No looter can survive under Buhari – Presidency

Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Executive Secretary, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has noted that people who have stolen money or looted assets do not have a hiding place under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

This Owasanoye said while presenting his paper at a one-day conference on Nigeria’s Foreign Policy under President Muhammadu Buhari Administration (2015-2019) held at Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos on Thursday.

2. APC reacts to Atiku/Obi’s performance at presidential debate

The All Progressive Congress Presidential Campaign Council has reacted to the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi in the debate they were engaged in yesterday.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Campaign, Barrister Festus Keyamo, their statement at the debate were bare face lies and dishonest claims.

3. Amaechi challenges Peter Obi to a public debate

Peter Obi, vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been challenged to a public debate by the director general of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO), Rotimi Amaechi

Amaechi who spoke during the teams’ campaign in Kano earlier today alleged that Peter Obi lied about infrastructure and transportation while fielding questions from Kadaria Ahmed on the presidential town hall-style debate.

4. CCT adjourns Onnoghen’s trial till Feb. 4th

The ongoing trial of the embattled chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen has been adjourned till Monday for more hearing on the trial for non declaration of assets.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal spokesman, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday.

5. No going back on strike action, JOHESU insists

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has concluded modalities in preparation of a resumption of their suspended nationwide strike.

It will be recalled that as earlier reported by Naija News, the union had threatened to resume the industrial action it suspended last May after the two weeks’ ultimatum it gave the government to resolve “issues in dispute” elapsed.

6. Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu reveals why IPOB must boycott Nigeria’s election

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says members of his group must boycott the forthcoming elections in Nigeria because that is the “smartest way to cripple evil dictators”.

Citing Ian Smith of Zimbabwe, De Klerk of South Africa and Maduro of Venezuela, Kanu said when people participate in “sham elections” they bestow legitimacy on such election.

7. Why FG may give Onnoghen soft landing

A 12-man Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) team has met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to wade into the crisis created by the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen and installment of the Acting counterpart, Tanko Mohammed.

The session at the Presidential Villa was reportedly to seek a “soft landing” for the CJN, who is expected to resign in what a source described as a “win-win” situation.

8. Wole Soyinka Speaks On Supporting Buhari/Atiku

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, says he will not support presidential candidates of either the All Progressive Congress, APC or Peoples Democratic Party, PDP

The Nigerian Playwright said this at an interactive session tagged citizen forum 2019.

“It is time for a totally new direction, and when an alternative emerges, we will give the candidate our backing,” he said.

9. APC confident that Saraki will not win election nor return as Senate President

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has again restated its plan to remove the Senate President, Bukola Saraki following his defection from the party to the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party.

The party also said it was confident that the forthcoming elections would dash Saraki’s hopes of returning to the Senate as the people of Kwara Central would reject him as their representative at the polls.

10. Evans’ trial adjourned till 6th of February

The absence of Idowu Haruna, a police officer and witness for the prosecution, stalled the trial of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans, on Thursday.

Evans and some others are standing trial for the attempted kidnap of Vincent Obianodo, the Chairman of The Young Shall Grow Motors.
