Supreme Court Delivers Judgement On Onnoghen

The police in the early hours of today, reportedly sealed off the office of Walter Onnoghen, suspended chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) and ejected administrative staff.

However, a visit on Monday by our correspondent to the office located at the Supreme Court complex, did not reveal anything out of place.

Newsmen were however not permitted full entrance into the office but were told by security operatives that all is in order.

Naija News recalls President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, swore in Tanko Mohammed as the new CJN, pending the determination of the case against Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Buhari based his action on an order of the CCT.

Onnoghen is accused of false assets declaration.

One of the sources said, “The police have sealed the office of the CJN. Officers and men of the Force went to the administrative staff offices at about 7 am and ordered clerical and other staff who were already at their desks to leave after which they locked up everywhere.”

This came as the National Judicial Council has fixed Tuesday for an emergency meeting to deliberate on the sudden suspension of Onnoghen and swearing in of Justice Tanko Mohammed as the Acting CJN by President Buhari.

Onnoghen was suspended on the eve of swearing in members of the 2019 national assembly, governorship and state assembly election petition tribunals which Mohammed did on Saturday.
