1. Appeal Court upholds Donald Duke as SDP presidential candidate

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, declared former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke as the 2019 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

The three-man panel of Justices in a unanimous decision overturned an earlier judgment of the Abuja High Court, which had on December 14, 2018, removed Duke as SDP’s candidate for the 2019 Presidential Election and installed Prof. Jerry Gana.

2. Diezani Gate: Ex-INEC officials found guilty of stealing over two hundred million naira

Two former officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara State, Christian Nwosu and Tijani Bashir have been found guilty of money laundering offences to the tune of N264, 880,000.

Naija News understands that the judge who presided over the case after several deliberations from both parties decided to adjourn his final verdict till Friday for sentencing.

3. It is too late to withdraw from 2019 presidential race – INEC tells Oby Ezekwesili

Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, the Presidential Candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has been prevented from withdrawing from the presidential race by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reacting to the announced withdrawal by Ezekwesili, from the Feb. 16 presidential election, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, on Thursday in Abuja said it was too late for any candidate to withdraw from the race.

4. Court of Appeal orders CCT to stop proceedings on Onnoghen’s case

In the ongoing false declaration of assest case against Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), the court of appeal has ordered the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to stay proceedings.

Recall that counsel to the CJN Wole Olanipekun had earlier this week applied for the prosecution process to be suspended indefinitely, while bringing to fore orders from other courts which the CCT had ignored.

5. Senate adjourns to February 19, 2019 budget unattended to

The Passing of the 2019 Budget to law may have to wait till after the general elections as the Nigerian Senate has adjourned plenary till February 19.

While it passed the Minimum Wage Bill through first and second reading, the Senate has gone on another recess without touching the 2019 Appropriation Bill.

6. ACPN condemn Ezekwesili’s withdrawal from presidential race, declare party support for Buhari’s re-election

The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has condemned the decision of its presidential candidate, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili to withdraw from the presidential race.

The party further blamed Ezekwesili for failure to discuss with it before taking such a major decision.

7. Ohanaeze endorses PDP’s Atiku, give reasons

An apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News reports that the PDP Presidential candidate whose running mate is Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, was endorsed on Thursday during a meeting of Imeobi, the highest decision-making body of Ohanaeze.

8. Buhari signs bill protecting people living with disabilities into law

A bill protecting persons living with disabilities has been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was made known in a statement by Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters (Senate).

9. Ogun 2019: INEC disowns PDP’s Adebutu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says any Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in Ogun State campaigning for an elective position without being on the candidates’ list released by the commission “is on his or her own” as the body has nothing to do with such.

Naija News reports that INEC National Commissioner for Information, Media and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, said this while featuring on a programme aired by a radio station in Ogun State.

10. Monaco suspend manager Thierry Henry

French Ligue 1 powerhouse, Monaco on Thursday, suspended its manager and former France international, Thierry Henry.

Naija News recalls that Henry has been in charge of the French side since October 2018 with the team struggling in the league under his leadership.
