Man In Court Over Alleged Jewelry Theft, Assault

Man in court for burglary

A Magistrate court in Ile-ife, is currently hearing the case of a 44-year-old man, Aderanti Akinola, who was dragged before the court for allegedly stealing jewelry worth N150,000.

The accused, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, committed the offence on Jan. 17 at Fajuyi Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant stole a Rolex Wristwatch, Silver ear ring, Silver ring and Silver necklace, all valued at N150, 000, property of Remilekun Paul, adding that the defendant assaulted Remilekun by pushing her into the gutter.

The offense according to Inspector Osanyintuyi contravenes Sections 252, 351, 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

Mr. Akinola, however pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of theft and assault.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Babawale Omodogbe, who applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term, pledged that his client would not jump bail but would provide substantial sureties.

The Magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 4, for hearing.
