Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel have dumped his Chinese side, and has successfully joined English Championship side Middlesbrough.

The English side Middlesbrough has given Mikel the number 12 jersey in the team and also named the Nigerian among the team’s first 11 after a deal was reached, signed and sealed between the two parties.

Mikel was quite welcoming of the idea to move back to England, as the move affords him the opportunity to be close to his family in the UK.

Mikel is hopeful that his contribution to the second devision club will help its push for promotion.

Mikel had previously attracted interest from European sides Roma and Wolfsburg but was set on returning to England to be closer to his family.

The midfielder, who has earlier been linked to Crystal Palace, is hopeful of being in the team that will represent Nigeria during this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Middlesbrough, who face Newport in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, are currently fifth in the Championship.
