The Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is not in any way related to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Committee on National Collation Center, Amina Zakari.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had condemned the appointment of Zakari by INEC, as it insist that she is a niece to the President.
Kola Olognondiyan, the National Press Secretary of party, said that the appointment of Zakari has justify the fears of the party that President Buhari is planning to rig the election.
However, BCO Deputy Media Director, Aliyu Abdullahi refuted the claim while featuring on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily.
Abdullahi, who revealed that Zakari is from Jegawa State, while Buhari is from Daura, Kastina State, lambasted the opposition for misinforming Nigerians.
According to him, “The PDP are crying wolf and are trying to misinform Nigerians because Amina Zakari is not a blood relation of President Muhammadu Buhari”.
Abdullahi also challenged the PDP to prove that Zakari was a blood relation to Buhari.
He said, “I want to believe that her being chairman of this committee does not have to do with the issue of announcing the results or even accepting or collecting the results from the returning officers”.
The BCO Deputy Director insisted that INEC chairman will not delegate his constitutional duty of announcing the result of the election to any person.
“What Amina’s role seems to be to my own understanding is purely an administrative and logistics support and that may be informed by her experience, she is the longest-serving commissioner among these sets of commissioners.
“She has witnessed the last election as a national commissioner, she is in charge of welfare so naturally setting-up the venue, administration, and support of the collation center would be in her domain,” he said.
