1. Stop using my name to extort money, Buhari warns government officials

The Presidency has issued a stern warning to political appointees, government officials and party men against influence peddling for corrupt pecuniary gains and other forms of extortion.

Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, told State House Correspondents Tuesday in Abuja that complaints of extortions of innocent people by what he called “self-serving name droppers and influence peddlers” is causing increasing embarrassment to the Presidency.

2. Melaye raises alarm, says IGP planning to kill him

Dino Melaye, the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has accused the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, of plotting to arrest him and inject him with a deadly substance.

Melaye stated that the Police operative ordered to carry the directive have been deployed by the police boss.

3. Fayose accuses FG of planning to impose emergency rule in Zamfara state

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has accused the federal government of plotting to hide under the killings in Zamfara State by armed bandits to impose emergency rule on the state.

Fayose, who is the Southwest Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, made this known on Tuesday through his media aide, Lere Olayinka.

4. President Buhari reacts to claims by his wife, Aisha of cabals within his government

Allegation by Aisha Buhari, President Muhammadu Buhari‘s wife, that his government has been hijacked by cabals has been discarded by the president who asked her to provide evidence to her claims.

Severally, the president’s wife had said some people are running her husband’s administration at the expense of Nigeria who brought it into power.

5. APM adopts Buhari as 2019 presidential candidate

Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, the National Chairman of Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has stated the reason why the party decided to pick President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun led the APM party officials to the Presidential Villa on Monday where they presented a letter of adoption to President Buhari.

6. Yacht and private jet owners in Nigeria to start paying luxury tax as from 2019

The minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed, has said that says owners of yachts and private jets will be taxed on these luxury items in 2019.

The Minister, while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, revealed that taxes will be reduced for small and medium, enterprises, while excise duties would be introduced in some areas.

7. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria will stop importing rice in 2019

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has declared that by next year, Nigeria will stop importing rice as there will be enough local production to cater for the need of Nigerians.

Osinbajo made the submission on Sunday at the palace of Musa Dogonkadai, the Seriki of the Hausa community in Agege, Lagos as confirmed by Mr. Laolu Akande, his senior special assistant on media and publicity.

8. UK warns of terrorist attacks in some Nigerian states

The UK foreign and commonwealth office has warned its citizens against travelling to several states in Nigeria as there is the risk of terrorist attacks and kidnappings.

The lastest warning by the FCO is against “all travel” to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

9. Lawmakers say 2019 budget may not be ready before elections

There are indications that Nigeria’s 2019 budget may not be passed by lawmakers in the National Assembly till after the general elections in the country next year.

According to the lawmakers, work will resume on the budget estimates at the committee levels when they resume sitting in January 2019, however the process may not be concluded till after the general elections.

10. God can’t be blamed if we don’t have peace in Nigeria

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Nigerians that God can not be held responsible if peace continues to elude the country.

The elder statesman in his message, also urged Nigerians to continue to strive for peace even as the 2019 general elections draw nearer, as according to him, it is the duty of all Nigerians to make it happen.
