1. President Buhari presents N8.83tr 2019 budget

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, presented the 2019 budget to a joint sitting of senators and rep members in the National Assembly.

The President was accompanied to the 2019 budget presentation by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other top government officials.

2. Nigerian unemployment figure hits over 20 million

Nigeria’s unemployment rate increased from 18.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 to 23.1 per cent in in the third quarter of 2018, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.

The statistics bureau in a report earlier today said the economically active or working age population (15 – 64 years of age) increased from 111.1 million in Q3 2017 to 115.5million in Q3 2018.

3. Lawmakers boo and cheer President Buhari during budget presentation

The National Assembly witnessed an unexpected drama as President Muhammadu Buhari was booed by some aggrieved lawmakers during Wednesday’s budget presentation to the lawmakers.

As he was been booed, legislators in support of the president equally cheered his statements, list of achievements and plans for 2019.

4. President Buhari makes allowance for minimum wage in 2019 budget

President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that a bill that will ensure the implementation of the new minimum wage for Nigerian Workers would soon be sent to the National Assembly.

The President made this known while presenting the 2019 budget estimates before the joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

5. Court nullifies election of Kwara APC governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

A High Court sitting in Ilorin on Wedneday has sacked Mr Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who is the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress Naija News can authoritatively report

Justice T.S Umar who presided over the case nullified the Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa led executive council of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), in Kwara State and sacked its governorship candidate Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The Judge recognised the Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani’s led execuitve council.

6. Pipeline explosion destroys houses, cars, other valuables in Abule-Egba, Lagos state

A serious fire outbreak rocked Abule-Egba community in Lagos state in the early hours of Wednesday, 19th December, 2018, destroying cars, houses and shops valued at several million naira.

It was gathered that the inferno was caused by activities of pipeline vandals which led to an explosion in the area.

7. FG declares public holiday for Christmas and new year

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25th, Wednesday 26th December, 2018 and Tuesday 1st January 2019 as Public Holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Celebrations, respectively.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Mohammed Manga on Wednesday evening.

8. PDP alleges fresh plans by presidency to remove Saraki

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that there is a fresh plot to use the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to forcefully remove the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, from office.

It has been observed that there have been several calls for Saraki to resign or be impeached since his defection from the APC to the PDP.

9. Sowore drags BON, NEDG to court over exclusion 2019 vice presidential debate

Mr Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Wednesday dragged Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) to court over the exclusion of his party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, Mr Rabiu Rufai in the debate which held on Dec. 14.

The National Legal Adviser of the party, Mr Inibehe Effiong, in company of its Deputy National Secretary, Mr Joshua Adeoye filed the suit against the body at the FCT High Court, Maitama.

10. Buhari instructs security operatives to find Badeh’s killers

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the gruesome killing of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd), describing it as “very sad and unfortunate.”

The President, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Wednesday, commiserated with the family of the late four-star general, his friends and professional colleagues in the military.
