Three People Burnt To Death In Kogi State Accident
Three people were reported burnt to death on Wednesday, as revealed by the Federal Road Safety Corps, due to an accident which took place at the Total filling station area of Okene, Kogi State.
The FRSC Unit Head in Okene, Adelaja Ogungbemi, while speaking with journalist revealed that many people also sustained injuries and seven vehicles were completely burnt in the accident.
Ogungbemi stated that the accident happened around 11:16 on December 18, when a fully loaded truck descending the slope lost its brake and in the process rammed into other vehicles.
He revealed that the impact started a fire which consumed the vehicles and their occupants.
He said that timely intervention of his men and the support from people around prevented what could have resulted in a major disaster.
According to him, the rescue effort was hampered by the raging inferno as three trapped occupants were burnt to death.
He said that the rescue efforts lasted till around 10am of Wednesday, saying that the road had been cleared of obstruction to allow for free flow of traffic.
