NASS Workers’ Strike: Lawmakers Hold Plenary Amidst Tight Security
Legislators Find A Way Into NASS Complex, Hold Plenary
Members of the Senate have held plenary today, in spite of the blockade by security operatives and members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria on strike.
Security operatives had blocked the entrance into the complex earlier today, but as earlier reported, Naija News gathered the lawmakers would be allowed entry to the Villa gate, which links the National Assembly with the Presidential Villa.
The plenary on Tuesday started two hours later, with less than 20 senators.
Similarly the House of Representatives went ahead with its own sitting, with only around 25 lawmakers.
The presidency has insisted in “peaceful resolution” to the strike, which workers called over their welfare.
Recall that the strike comes after President Muhammmadu Buhari has announced that he will present 2019 budget on Wednesday (tomorrow).
The protesting workers have however said, they won’t stop the President from presenting the budget or the lawmakers from sitting, but none of their members would be allowed to carry out normal office activities.
