1. Presidency says Obasanjo can no longer be taken seriously

The Presidency has dismissed the recent utterances by former president Olusegun Obasanjo, as a sign of confusion not worthy of attention.

Speaking on Wednesday, presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said that whoever Obasanjo chooses to support at the 2019 elections is irrelevant, as the former president had publicly changed his mind on the matter so many times over the past few months alone.

2. Yobe state house of assembly speaker resigns

Yobe state house of assembly’s speaker Adamu Dama Dogo, has voluntarily resigned his position on Wednesday.

Some lawmakers speaking after plenary claimed his resignation was prompted by impeachment moves building up against him.

3. Adebayo Shittu threatens not to support APC campaigns in Oyo state

Adebayo Shittu, the Minister of Communication, has hinted that he might work against the All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, at the February polls.

Shittu, who lost in the race for the governorship ticket, said without restitution, there won’t be peace in the APC.

4. APC Reps will resist any attempt to override Buhari on electoral bill – Gbajabiamila

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the House would scuttle any plan to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto of the 2018 Electoral (Amendment) Bill.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday at the National Assembly, Mr Gbajabiamila said the APC has more than the required number to stop the process.

5. Atiku signs peace accord, calls on Buhari to sign electoral bill

Former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has finally signed the peace accord for 2019 presidential candidates in Abuja.

Atiku and his party earlier blamed a communication gap for its failure to be a part of the original signing process on Tuesday.

6. United States label Boko Haram, ISIS, others as ‘entities of particular concern’

The United States has announced the designation of the Boko Haram terrorist group as an entity “of particular concern”.

The U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo in a statement, designated Boko Haram alongside the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), al-Qa’ida and al-Shabab.

7. SDP pulls out of CUPP, declares Donald Duke as 2019 presidential candidate

The Social Democratic Party has decided not to support Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, as adopted by the Coalition of United Political Parties.

The party revealed this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Alfa Mohammed, in Abuja on Tuesday at the end of the party’s expanded caucus meeting.

8. BON invites only 5 political parties for 2019 presidential debate

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) and the Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) have invited just five political parties, to participate in the 2019 vice presidential and presidential debates.

The parties are Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP).

9. Ibrahim Jubril resigns as Buhari’s minster of state for environment

The Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jubril, has just resigned his appointment.

Jubril is now the new Emir of Nasarawa, following his selection by the Nasarawa Emirate Council.

10. Doyin Okupe regains freedom from EFCC custody

Doyin Okupe, a former aide to immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan has been released from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody.

Okupe, who was arrested on Monday, made this known in a tweet on his official Twitter Page on Wednesday.
