NLC Wants Government To Speed Up Process On New Minimum Wage

The Nigerian Labour Congress has insisted the new minimum wage must be implemented and paid to workers before the 2019 general elections.

Chairman, Oyo State chapter of the NLC, Comrade Waheed Olojede, said this during his remark at the 2018 Pension Day celebration organised by pensioners in the state on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital.

The NLC chieftain further warned that the union was not prepared to compromise on the issue of the N30,000 minimum wage insisting it must be paid before the 2019 general elections.

According to Olojede, many workers in the country are suffering due to insufficient take home pay.

“The issue of the new minimum wage started long ago before the election and must be resolved before it.

“I call on the National Assembly to give the report of the tripartite committee accelerated hearing whenever it is sent to them by the President.

“This is the time the National Assembly can pay back to the workers in Nigeria,” Olojede said.
