Unpaid Workers Prevent Lawmakers From Entering Their Office

The National Assembly (NASS) complex in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been been shut down by angry workers protesting over unpaid salaries.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the protesters have since shut down the chambers of the National Assembly, demanding payment of their salaries, allowances and promotion by the management of the National Assembly.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and some lawmakers who attempted to gain access into the two chambers, were stopped by the angry workers.

Naija News learnt that for about five minutes, Ekweremadu, tried without success.

The workers claimed they are being owed entitlements as far back as 2010 and have vowed  not to allow plenary to hold until they are paid.

The management of the national assembly have also spoken out, saying the issues raised by the workers are receiving due attention.

The response was given by Sani Omolori, clerk of the National Assembly.
