The threat weighed like a sword of Damocles over the Sierra Leonean football team. Friday, the penalty fell: Sierra Leone will not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

So decided the African Football Confederation at its conclave Friday in Ghana. The apex body of African football is aligned with a FIFA decision that suspended the Leone Stars for government interference in the affairs of the federation.

In the wake, the last three qualifying matches of the national team have been canceled. As for the two games already played by the Leone Stars, they will simply be canceled. As a result, Sierra Leone’s Group F ranking was reduced to three teams: Kenya 7 points, Ghana 6 points, Ethiopia 1 pt. Even before the last qualifying day in March, it is undeniable that Kenya and Ghana are getting their tickets for the finals of the CAN 2019.

For now, it’s difficult to say exactly where the competition will be held. On Friday, in Accra, CAFalso decided to withdraw the organization of the CAN 2019 in Cameroon, and plans a call for applications by the end of December. Meanwhile, Morocco and South Africa, which have not yet formally submitted their candidacies, do not hide their ambitions to host the famous competition of African football.
