Revealed: EFCC’s Plan To Freeze Account Of Its Suspects

Nigerians Call Out EFCC Over Naira Marley's Support For 'Yahoo Boys'

EFCC Moves To Freeze Account Of Those Who Have Cases of Corruption

The federal government will henceforth freeze the bank accounts of suspects being tried in court over allegations of corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Naija News understands.

This move is an implementation of the Executive Order No. 6 on the “preservation of suspicious assets connected with corruption and other relevant offences” signed by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2018.

The federal government has also placed a travel ban on the affected persons, but the list is yet to be officially made public.

I issued a cheque of N250,000 to a friend and it was turned down,” a former minister who was affected informed The Cable.

“When I called my account officer, he invited me for a meeting, where I was told there is a ‘post no debit’ instruction on all my accounts because of the executive order. They told me I am not the only one affected. All persons undergoing trial are affected.”

Recall that as earlier published, on Tuesday, Olisa Metuh, former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he did not have money to buy even “panadol” because all his accounts had been frozen by the EFCC.

On March 30, Lai Mohammed, minister of information, had released the list of alleged looters following a challenge from Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the PDP.

“The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand,” he had said.

“This shows the hollowness of their apology. This list is just a tip of the iceberg, and the PDP is aware of this. We did not make these cases up. Many of these cases are in court and the records are available.”

Among those listed were Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser; Dieziani Alison-Madukwe, former minister of petroleum resources; Kenneth Minimah, former chief of army staff; Alex Badeh, former chief of defence staff; Inde Dikko, former comptroller-general of customs; and Bala Mohammed, former minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Others are Stella Oduah, a serving senator; Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State governor; Jonah Jang, former Plateau governor; Nenadi Usman, former minister of finance; Bashir Yuguda, former minister of state for finance; Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation; Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications and Uche Secondus, national chairman of the PDP.

The list released in two batches contained 29 names. Dokpesi and Secondus had sued the federal government over the issue but lost and filed appeal.

The cases are ongoing.

Technical University Is Owned By Oyo State Government – Ajimobi

The Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, on Monday clarified that the First Technical University, Ibadan, is the property of the state government and does not belong to anyone.

Ajimobi stated this while he visited by the state’s traditional rulers led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Other traditional rulers who visited the out-going Governor were Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola; Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdul-Ganiy Salawudeen; Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola; and Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin.

The Governor spoke on his achievements in education, agriculture, peace, security and infrastructure, among others during his tenure.

He stated that the state government has not spent any fund on the establishment of the university, as all the structures in the institution’s premises were built by foreign donors and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“Let me use this opportunity to dispel the rumour going around that I am the owner of The First Technical University, Ibadan. People are expected to talk, especially when they lack proper information, but if we fail to dispel the rumour, it may stick and become the truth. I want to say without any equivocation that I do not own the Technical University, Ibadan. It belongs to Oyo State Government wholly. It is easy for people to come up with such rumour because of the successful establishment of the university.”

“It is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and we are happy that we succeeded in achieving this in our time. Nobody believed we could achieve it, especially during a period the country was grappling with economic challenges. Oyo State has had no financial input in the establishment of the university till date. All what you see there were done by lovers of the state, indigenes living abroad, international institutions and the CBN.”

“I give gratitude to the Almighty Allah for giving me the opportunity, in spite of my natural deficiencies as a human being.”

“To serve humanity through the governance of Oyo State, which is unarguably the intellectual capital of Nigeria with highly politically-sophisticated people, is a rare privilege. I appreciate you all our royal fathers and indeed, the entire people of the state immensely because you made it possible for us to govern the state with uncommon success in the last eight years.”

Oba Adeyemi while speaking stated that there is no institution that could appreciate the achievements of any administration in any state than traditional rulers.

He stated that the re-election of Ajimobi was a sign that the people love and support him and their acknowledgement of his administration’s success in the areas of education, health and infrastructure.

“I believe very much that if there is any agency that can make a correct appraisal of any government’s performance in any state, no agency is better placed than the traditional rulers in such a state.”

“The reason is not far-fetched. Among the traditional rulers, there are those who have experienced some administrations, which qualifies them to make fair assessment of all. In my own case, and with gratitude to God for my longevity and the good people of Oyo for their support and cooperation at all times, I have experienced many administrations, both military and civilian.”

“Let me start from a non-controversial statement of fact as far as Governor Ajimobi is concerned. It is that till date, he is the longest serving governor to occupy the Agodi Government House since the Western Region days. There can be no better empirical testimony of his acceptability by the people of the State than that. I doubt if anybody can deny the fact that the last eight years have been marked by peace in the state. He is always in constant touch with all security agencies, with his ears literally on the ground for vital information.”
