Man in court for burglary

A 40 year old housewife, Maryam Ogedengbe, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court by police in Lagos for allegedly assaulting her rival, Kuburat Ogedengbe.

The accused who resides at No. 8 Thomas Lane, Agege, Lagos, was reported to have beaten up and injured Kuburat following a misunderstanding.

The prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, while in court on Monday stated that Maryam assaulted Kuburat by beating her and hitting her head and neck with an object, because of a disagreement between both of them.

According to him, the accused committed the assault around 9pm on November 14, 2018 at their residence.

The accused and the complainant were having an argument and before the complainant knew what was happening, the accused had picked up an object and hit Kuburat on the head with it,” Ogu stated.

He said the offence contravened Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised), adding that the section stipulated a three-year jail term for assault.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till December 11 for mention.
