Police Give Update On Investigation Into Offa Bank Robbery

The Nigeria Police Force yesterday broke its silence on the implication of the death of the principal suspect in the Offa bank robbery, Michael Adikwu.

The police further revealed that Adikwu was not murdered as been widely circulated in certain quarters, but that he slumped and died while in detention.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood on Thursday, the police also submitted that Senate President Bukola Saraki still stands indicted in the April 5 bank robbery attack in Offa, Kwara State.

He said the evidence from the five suspects now in court is enough to prosecute Dr. Saraki.

Adikwu “was not murdered but slumped and died in detention while investigation into the Offa bank robbery was ongoing. It is also important for the public to know that the deceased Adikwu was not among the five gang leaders that indicted and implicated Saraki and, therefore, his death cannot in anyway vindicate Saraki. There is a post-mortem examination result in respect of the death of Adikwu,” Moshood said in the statement.

He said the five suspects namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa bank robbery in their confessional statement to the police all indicted and implicated Saraki.

According to the police PRO, the five suspects admitted that they were political thugs of Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.

He said: “The five gang leaders further confessed during investigation that they are political thugs under the name Youth Liberation Movement, aka Good Boys. They also admitted and confessed to have been sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles.”

“The five gang leaders further admitted that they attended the senate president’s daughter’s wedding held in Abuja.”
