The Kogi Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Rosemary Osikoya, has donated clothing materials and salt to women of Ikem Polling Unit, Ogugu Ward 1, in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi.

Osikoya, who was a special guest at an event organised by All Progressive Congress (APC), Women Forum in the polling unit on Tuesday, said that the donation was to encourage women’s participation in political activities.

“Today, we are having a political activity; the women in Ikem polling unit in my own ward, Ogugu ward 1, have decided to do what other women in other wards have done.

“It is good to know that women are now politically conscious and getting more involved in what is the political scene.

“They have formed themselves into a group called ‘APC Women Forum, Ogugu Ward 1, Ikem polling unit.

“I am also privileged that we are able to give them wrappers and salt. It is good to see the joy in people when you encourage what they are doing.

“We have distributed what we brought and also taken their records; 81 women will have wrappers before Christmas,” Osikoya said.

The commissioner added that plans were also on ground to train the women and youths on various vocational skills in partnership with Home Economics Teachers Association.

She also addressed the young people, who had dropped out of school due to their age, or had become fathers and mothers.

According to her, government will collaborate with teachers to organise extra-mural classes to help them complete their studies.

Shes said that some would be trained on skills to enable them train themselves.

“I am happy that I am starting my charity at home,” she said.

The commissioner urged the youths to register so as to be assisted to get back to school to acquire either formal or non-formal education.

Mr Dominic Apeh, APC Chairman, Ogugu Ward 1, who thanked the commissioner for the gesture, promised that the community would give total support to the party in 2019.
