The Police division in Yelwa area of Bauchi, has been blocked by hundreds of Christian women, staging protest for the release of Christians arrested by police.

The women who protested in their statement revealed that their action was to request for the unconditional release of Christians arrested by the police after the religious crisis which took place in the area, yesterday.

The leader of the women, Ladi Joshua, while speaking with newsmen, called out the police for carrying out indiscriminate arrest of innocent Christian youths from their houses, instead of hunting those youths who allegedly attacked people.

We are here to protest and demand the unconditional release of our Christian youths who were arrested by the police even when the Muslim youths have not been confronted despite terrorising our people,” she said.

The women, with leaves tied on their waist, blamed the police for not hunting the attackers, wondering why Christian youths should be made to pay for offences they did not commit.

“Honestly, police in Nigeria now seems to connive with criminals to implement the script of their masters just to divert public attention from Muslim attack on Christian community,” the women leader lamented.

The Yelwa axis, which is dominated by Christians, has witnessed series of religious crisis before now, even as the government has been making efforts to curtail acts of violence.

The Bauchi state Police commissioner, Sunusi Leman, had confirmed that three people were killed with others injured during the midnight crisis.
