1. Suspended NHIS boss heads to court to challenge his suspension

Usman Yusuf, suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has challenged his suspension from office.

Yusuf took to a Federal High Court in Abuja to sue two ministers and NHIS.

2. US express worries over Shiite/Army clash

The United States has reacted to the clashes between Nigerian security agencies and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shittes.

The US Government expressed concern over the rate of killings caused by the crisis.

3. Senator Adeleke says exam malpractice case politically motivated

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Osun State 2018 governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has said he remains committed to the mission to bring to an end APC’s bad governance, economic and social enslavement of Osun people.

Mr Adeleke said he is innocent of what he called “trumped-up charges of examination malpractices”, insisting that the case was politically motivated.

4. Jimi Agbaje picks Lagos princess as 2019 running mate

Jimi Agbaje, Lagos state Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), gubernatorial candidate has today announced Mrs Haleemat Busari as his running mate for 2019 gubernatorial election.

Felix Oboagwina, Director of Media and Publicity of Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organisation (JACO), said that the choice of Busari, a lawyer, followed comprehensive consultations with leaders and stakeholders within and outside the party.

5. 13 killed as Boko Haram launch fresh attacks on Borno state

Not less that 13 Persons have been killed in Kofa general areas in Konduga local government area of Borno State and dozens of Internally Displaced Persons missing as suspected Boko Haram fighters invaded the areas.

At least, 13 civilians were reportedly killed in the attack while over 40 makeshift tents in the Dalori 2 IDPs camp were burnt down when the attackers invaded the town.

6. N3.5b fraud uncovered in National Assembly

The 2016 annual audit report released by the Auditor General of the Federation has revealed that about N3.5 billion was misappropriated in 2016 by the management of the National Assembly.

The funds were reportedly siphoned through various schemes such as failure to retire advances, financial documentation irregularities, excess payment for goods, controversial purchases and diversion of funds.

7. Okorocha speaks on leadership crisis within APC

One of the named aggrieved All Progressive Congress Governors, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has called on the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole to uphold the integrity and honesty for which he is known.

He said the party’s chairman should use the characters in resolving the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship primary election in the state.

8. FG says its doing its best to secure Leah Sharibu’s release

The Federal government has reassured Nigerians that it was pulling all the strings that it could afford to ensure the release of the last Dapchi school girl, Leah Sharibu, who is still in the captivity of Boko Haram insurgents.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister for Information and Culture gave this assurance during the 100 years celebration of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Oro, his home town near Ilorin in Kwara state.

9. Another earth tremor occurs in Abuja

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) have confirmed an incident of earth tremor at the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday.

Both agencies confirmed the happening and said technical experts have already been deployed to affected areas to evaluate the situation.

10. Police, Army reject Amnesty International’s report on Shiite clashes

The Nigeria Police Force and Army authorities have rejected the alleged Amnesty International Nigeria report on the use of force against members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as shi’ites.

The organisation had alleged in its report on Wednesday that the police and military used deadly force against IMN members.
