The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called for restraint and peace in Abuja, following the ongoing clashes between the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and Security Forces.

He said:

“From the reports I have received, the ongoing protest in Abuja is escalating — with significant loss of lives and damage to property. Right now, I call on the protesters and our security agents to exercise extreme restraint and tow the path of peace.”

Naija News recalls that members of IMN  better known as Shiites have the protesting the continuous detention of the group’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky.

In December 2015, the Nigerian Army raided his residence in Zaria, seriously injured him, and killed hundreds of his followers; since then, he has remained under state detention.
