All appears set for Julen Lopetegui to be sacked as manager of Spanish club, Real Madrid on Monday following a run of poor results.

Information gathered by Naija News further revealed former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would be announced as Madrid’s new manager.

Real Madrid had not been having favourable results under Lopetegui’s leadership but a 5-1 hammering in the hands of eternal rivals, Barcelona in Sunday’s Clasico seem to have put the final nail in the former Spanish coach’s coffin.

The result leaves Madrid languishing in ninth place on the La Liga table.

Madrid’s executives have scheduled a meeting for Monday, where they will make Lopetegui’s dismissal official, with a formal announcement of the sack set to follow.

“We have to take a decision. We can’t continue like this any longer,” a Real Madrid source told Goal.

Speaking after the Clasico game on Sunday, Lopetegui told reporters that he hopes to be given the opportunity to guide the team back to glory days.

“I feel sad at the moment, but with full strength to remain in charge of this group.

“This is a tough blow, but I am strong enough to know everything can be turned around. There is a long way to go, and I have a lot of faith in this group of players,” he said.

52-year old Lopetegui only took over the Madrid team about four months ago after Zinedine Zidane decided to step down from the position as head coach.

49-year old Conte, who is rumoured to be next in line for the job, has not held a coaching job since departing English premier league side, Chelsea after the 2017-18 season.
