Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, has called on all Christians in Nigeria to pray and fast for seven days to prevent violence that may follow the 2019 general elections.

The clergy man stated this in a memo read to the congregation during the service at Faith Tabernacle, Ota, on Sunday.

While pointing to the crisis that took place in the Osun State governorship rerun election that was held on September 27, Oyedepo stated that the happenings in recent elections held in some states is tending towards what politicians will do during the next general elections.

The memo, was also read during a Sunday service in all LFC including the Winners’ Chapel, Osogbo.

He claimed that politicians had started acquiring arms to destroy whoever decides to stand on their way to their electoral victory during that election.

He stated that this is the reason why Christians needs to pray so as to seek divine intervention “to avert the devastation that seems to lie ahead of our great nation.”

Oyedepo called on all Christians in the country to join in the prayer and fast which will commence on Monday and end on October 28. He advised them to cry to God to save the country from politicians who plan to wreck the nation for their political ambition.

Oyedepo said, “Recent elections that held in some states and some quarters across Nigeria are pointers to the need for divine intervention for the rescue of our nation to avert the breakdown of law and order in the forthcoming general elections in this coming year.

“Political thuggery has assumed a new dimension in Nigeria, where many voters were not able to access the polling booths because they did not belong to the group that must win. Some even resisted access even to the point of killing the opposition.

“If anyone is not sure of returning home from going to cast his vote and would not want to risk his life for that, how then do we determine the winner?

“This is how much the soul of Nigeria is in distress and would require divine intervention for rescue.

“There is nothing wrong with a ‘must win’ determination, that is what the spirit of sportsmanship is all about, but this must be channelled through legitimate means only and not by killing the people one claims he wants to serve.

“Today, we cannot tell how much arms some individuals or group may have piled up to accomplish their political ambitions, by being determined to kill innocent Nigerians that may stand in their way. We have no choice but to pray for God to heal our land and deliver us from all forms of election crises.
