1. Senate in rowdy session as Saraki and Akpabio clash

Plenary at the Senate today turned into fist of words over the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Akpabio had raised a point of order to respond to the motion by Senator Akpan but Senate President Saraki ruled he couldn’t speak from a seat not assigned to him with the issue resulting in a fist of words by APC and PDP senators.

2. Fayemi re-introduces free education in Ekiti state

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has put an end to the education development levy placed on students of public and private schools introduced by ex-Governor Ayo Fayose.

Fayemi reintroduced free education from primary to secondary school level to ensure that students from poor home also get access to education.

3. Senate want banks to suspend ATM charges

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, called on commercial banks to suspend all forms of illegal charges on customers’ accounts particularly monyhly ATM card maintenance charges.

The senate, in a motion sponsored by Gbenga Ashafa, also called on the consumer protection council to look into the issue.

4. Army parades 13 suspects in connection with Gen. Alkali’s disappearance

13 suspects arrested in connection with missing Maj.-Gen. Idris Alkali (retd) have been paraded before journalist in Jos, Plateau State.

The Garrison Commander, 3 Division, Nigeria Army, Rukuba, Brig.-Gen. Umar Muhammed, stated that the suspects would be handed over to the Police for full investigation.

5. Atiku promises to give 40% of his cabinet to women and youths

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2019 general elections, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has promised to give 40% of cabinet appointments to women and children if elected president.

Atiku said his policy document would create conducive environment for all Nigerians particularly women and children.

6. United States deny endorsing any candidate as Nigeria’s president for 2019

The United States has denied endorsing any candidate for next year’s general election in Nigeria.

The was disclosed by Philip Franz, the Political Officer of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, while on a courtesy call to Katsina state Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

7. Ikpeazu denies opposing Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State on Wednesday, denied the insinuation that South-East PDP governors opposed former Gov. Peter Obi’s emergence as running mate of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ikpeazu stated this in Aba after accompanying Obi to the site of last Friday’s pipeline fire that killed scores of residents of Umuimo and Umuadoro communities in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Council. He said their concern was that they were not consulted as stakeholders.

8. EFCC obtains court order to keep Fayose in custody for 2 weeks

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has reportedly obtained a remand order from a Federal Capital Territory High Court to keep former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State for two weeks.

The remand order, it was learnt, is subject to renewal which implies that Fayose could spend longer than two weeks in custody.

9. NJC says Abba-Aji has no corruption case to answer

The National Judicial Council has insisted that Justice Uwani Musa Abba-Aji is free to upgraded to the Supreme Court’s bench.

The NJC had at in its 87th meeting chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, on October 3 and 4, recommended Abba-Aji, currently serving on the Court of Appeal bench, to Buhari for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

10. NNPC says Senate is on a wild goose chase over $3.5b oil subsidy investigation

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has denied Senate’s allegation that it had a $3.5 billion fund to subsidize imports of petroleum products.

The Senate had on Tuesday hinted that it would investigate the fund it said the NNPC was utilising.
