Former Arsenal head coach, Arsene Wenger, has warned the club’s new manager that Mesut Ozil, could lack motivation at the club having retired from Germany’s national team.

Ozil has been heavily criticized for his performance during the World Cup in Russia this summer, and even clashed with a fan following Germany’s 2-0 defeat to South Korea which led to their early exit from the tournament.

Ozil after the World Cup announced his retirement from the national team as his country tries to qualify for Euro 2020.

The player maker has experienced slow start since Emery started managing Arsenal and Wenger thinks that his retirement from the international football could have a negative impact on his club performance.

“I believe that Germany need Ozil,” Wenger told SportBild.

“I hope that Low can convince him to come back.

“Ozil is a super football player, he was not the worst at the World Cup.

“I did not love that he left Germany’s national team because a small piece of motivation disappears when you know that you do not have to be ready for a World Cup or a European Championship.”
