Barcelona suffered their fourth consecutive stumble in the Spanish league on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Valencia away from home for the eighth round.
As a result, they lost first position to Sevilla, who did their homework by defeating Celta de Vigo 2-1. Real Madrid are currently fourth.
With the draw, the Catalan team reached 15 points and was beaten by Sevilla, who now has 16.
Barca are tied with Atletico Madrid, who is in third place for having lower goal balance. Valencia are only 14th place, with nine points.
With his fourth match without victory, Barça ended up yielding the leadership to Seville. The new first-placed scorer did his homework by beating Celta 2-1 with Pablo Sarabia goals in the 39th minute and Wissam Ben Yedder in the final 16. Sofiane Boufal scored the visitors’ goal, which was one less from the 13th minute – Nestor Araujo was sent off.
Also on Sunday, Espanyol also took the home factor to add three more points in the table. In good phase in this beginning of the championship, the Catalan team defeated Villarreal by 3 to 1, with goals of Hernan Perez, Sergi Darder and Pablo Piatti.
The result left Espanyol with 14 points, in fifth place of the table. Already Villarreal is the 16th place, with eight points.
