Germany will be the host country for the final round of the UEFA European Football Championship in 2024, which they have already hosted in 1988, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said on Tuesday.
The German bid beat Turkey in the race for the organization of the 17th edition of the tournament in the vote at the UEFA Executive Committee meeting at the headquarters of the governing body of European football in Nyon, Switzerland.
The European Championship, the main continental competition, was held only once in Portugal in 2004, with the Portuguese side missing the final with Greece 1-0 in a match at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
The French team managed to win the European title for the first time 12 years later in 2016 in Paris by imposing itself on the final to host the French team, also 1-0 after prolongation.
