Osinbajo Speaks On The Welfare Of Flood Victims In Nigeria
The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has promised victims of the flood disaster that the federal government will ensure that they are well taken care of, even as it continues to make efforts to tackle the menace.
Today, I am in one of the areas affected by flooding in Otuocha, Anambra State. To see what our brothers and sisters are going through is heart breaking.
We will supply those who have been affected with food and relief materials. Our hearts are with you. pic.twitter.com/3NXsFAGcBN

Naija News learnt that the Vice President made the promise on Monday when he visited an Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, created for the flood victims.
He also stated that once the flood waters recede, the government will do its best to compensate all those who have lost property and farmlands.
Isn't it better if government of the day can put its resources into mapping and analysis of weather forecasts and trend and also mapping and provision of adequate drainage and canals for flood to pass. Ain't we tired of doing the business of palliative medicine after death.

He said, “It is the intention of the federal government, working with the state government to ensure that when the flood waters recede, we are able to offer some rehabilitation and some comfort in whatever way possible to those who have lost their farmlands and those who have lost their homes.“This is only the first stage. I am here to look at what has gone wrong.
Well yes and asides that Flood prone areas in Nigeria are mostly those that are located in the deltas of rivers Benue and Niger, as well as the coastal areas in the lowest parts of the country.

“A lot of farm and property are under water but after this period when the water recedes, that is when the hard work begins because those who have lost farmlands, need to be restored somehow and need to be compensated somehow.
“In the same way those who have lost property, who have lost houses, we have to make sure that we do the best we can.“So, I hope that in the next few weeks, we will be able to return people, not just to their farmlands but also to their homes.
Thanks so much for coming but your best is still not good enough. We know that this is natural and occur annually but dredging of River Niger, River Benue and others will go a long way in minimizing our suffering because of flood. Let it not be a campaign gameplay.

“In the meantime, it is our duty to make sure you are well taken care of – the duty of the Federal Government and the state government to make sure that your medical health is properly taken care of, to make sure that you are well-fed while you are here, and also to make sure that you are able to live as comfortably as possible”.
Flooding happens every year Mr Vice-president. And this type of flooding can be contained. Rather than eye service every year, dredge river Niger and benue, improve the drainage channels of coastal states, sensitize the people. That's how to get my vote!!!
