A police patrol van attached to ‘C Division’, Delta State Police Command, Asaba, has been attacked by armed men, leading to the death of one police officer, while five other were reportedly injured.

According to the Nation, the hoodlum attacked the policemen in their patrol van in a form of ambush, using dangerous weapons on them.

Three Police Officers reportedly fled leaving their AK 47 rifles which was carted away by the hoodlums.

An eyewitness told The Nation that the attackers inflicted severe machete cut on the policemen, while two was severally injured, the others were able to escape the attack. However, one of the cops dead as a result of excessive blood loss.

Mr. Muhammad Mustafa, the Police Commissioner in the state, while confirming the incident, disclosed that some suspects connected to the incidents have been arrested while investigations had commenced.

With this latest one, the number of attacks on police patrol teams by gunmen has risen to three within the space of two months in Asaba, the state capital.

It was gathered that two months ago, two AK 47 rifles were reportedly taken away in a similar attack at Isse-Asagba.
