Here Are The Major Nigerian Newspaper Headlines For Tuesday, 11th September, 2018

1. President Buhari to receive his nomination form today

President Muhammadu Buhari will today, be presented with the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms.

The event would hold at the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network, the group that brought the form for the president will be presenting the form to the president.

2. Presidency says Adeosun’s certificate scandal is under investigation

The presidency has reacted to the NYSC certificate scandal involving the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, insisting the matter is been investigated.

The presidency further warned against politicizing the matter, stressing that a position can only be taken after investigations are concluded.

3. Many feared dead in Nasarawa gas explosion

An explosion which rocked Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, has claimed the lives of unconfirmed number of people, while about 50 other persons sustained various degree of burns.

The explosion which happened on Monday morning at about 10am, was said to be as a result of a gas leakage from Monaco gas refill station located in the premises of Natson petrol station.

4. Ambode picks APC governorship nomination form

The Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has picked up the nomination form to vie for a second term in office.

Ambode revealed the development on his twitter page while sharing a photo of himself picking up his nomination form at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national headquarters.

5. Cattle rearers and IPMAN purchase nomination form for El-Rufai

Ahead of the 2019 elections, the expression of interest and nomination form has been purchased for the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The Association of Cattle Sellers, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, and Sheikh Gumi Market Association purchased the form which was presented by representatives of the groups to governor El-Rufai.

6. Orji Kalu absent in court over N3.2b fraud trial

The ongoing trial of a former Governor of Abia, Orji Uzo Kalu, over an alleged N3.2 billion fraud was stalled again at a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, following Kalu’s absence in court because of medical reasons.

The EFCC had in 2016, proferred a 34-count charge bordering on fraud against Kalu and the others.

7. Governor Gaidam of Yobe state approves life imprisonment for rapists

Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, the Yobe governor, has assented to the law that places life imprisonment and 25 years jail term for rape of minors and adults respectively.

Gaidam while signing the law in Damaturu, said that government took a proactive action in view of the rampant cases of rape, kidnapping and unnatural offences being reported across the country.

8. PDP accuses INEC of working for APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a communique issued at the end of its emergency meeting in Abuja, yesterday, the PDP governors accused the electoral body of conducting itself as a tool of the APC-led Federal Government and therefore passed a vote of no confidence in the electoral umpire.

9. PDP moves to pick consensus presidential candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a committee to prune down the number of its presidential aspirants, in its bid to ensure a rancour free primary election.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin who revealed this in a statement, yesterday, said the committee is to interface with all the presidential aspirants and explore the possibility of coming up with a consensus candidate from among them.

10. Former IG, Abba picks senatorial form for Jigawa state

Former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has joined the race for the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Jigawa State central senatorial district.

Abba picked his nomination and expression of interest forms at the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja, on Monday.
