Police Shot Dead Highway Robber in Ogun State

A member of an armed robbery gang has been shoot dead by the Police along along Sagamu-Benin-Ore Expressway, the Ogun State Police Command reveals.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, on Wednesday stated that the suspected robber was gunned down early hours of Tuesday 4th September 2018.

He said that the suspect was shot dead during a gun duel between his gang and policemen attached to Odogbolu Divisional headquarters of the command.

Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, explained that the division received a distress call that some hoodlums had blocked the expressway, robbing travellers.

According to him, Simire Hillary, the Divisional Police Officer led the Anti-Robbery team to the scene, where they met the robbers attacking a truck driver.

Oyeyemi said that a gun battle ensued between the armed gang and the police when they open fire on sighting the police.

He said at the end of the encounter, one of the hoodlums was shot dead while other members escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds, and the truck driver, Michael Okechuckwu, was rescued unhurt.

In the same vain, Ahmed Iliyasu, the Commissioner of Police in the state, who applauded the courage and gallantry efforts of his men ordered that other members of the gang be tracked down and brought to book.

According to Punch, he equally admonished hospitals as well as traditional healers to notify the police if anybody “is seen with bullet wounds in their area.”
