Imo Monarch Loses N85 Million As Gunmen Attack Palace

The abductors of the All Progressives Congress Chairman in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State Mr Henry Ashofor, have reportedly demanded N20m for his release.

The abduction of Ashofor and two others by gunmen took place near Aiyetoro, on the Igarra-Ibilo Road last Saturday.

They were kidnapped while they were making their way by from a burial ceremony.

Punch gathered that the family of the kidnapped victims were contacted on Sunday.

The kidnappers insisted that they will not release release the party chairman until N20m was paid, despite pleas by his family to the abductors to reduce the ransom to N600,000.

A source in the area said, “There is unease. Friends and family members of Ashofor are traumatised by the kidnap.

“Besides, they (family) said they could not raise the huge amount demanded by the kidnappers.”

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Otaru of Igarra, Folorunsho Dania, has called on the police to beef up security in the area.

Dania said, “Activities of hoodlums have become worrisome. They are bloodthirsty. Almost on a daily basis, they carry out heinous crimes.”
