1. President Buhari receives British Prime Minister, Theresa May in Abuja

British Prime Minister, Theresa May, was in Abuja, Nigeria and was received by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

Other top government officials are also on ground to receive the British PM who is making a first visit to the country since she became Prime Minister in 2016.

2. Saraki saved the National Assembly from chaos – Goodluck Jonathan

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday commended the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for the firm and progressive leadership he has provided for the National Assembly.

Jonathan who spoke when Saraki paid him a courtesy visit at his Maitama Office in Abuja, said the tremendous support being enjoyed by Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives testifies to his leadership ability.

3. Lawal Daura opens up on National Assembly invasion

A close associate to the sacked DSS boss, Lawal Daura who spoke on conditions of anonymity said that Daura insisted that he took all actions in national interest through a collective responsibility.

He reportedly said principal officers of sister security agencies were involved even though he promised not to disclose on whose authority he relied on to lay the siege on the National Assembly.

4. Kwankwaso declares 2019 presidential ambition

Former Kano Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso has formally declared to run against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections at an event in Abuja attended by many of his followers and political associates.

He promised to restructure the country if elected as president of Nigeria in 2019.

5. Court rejects application to stop impeachment process against Saraki

An application seeking to suspend plans by some senators to remove the Senate President, Bukola Saraki has been rejected by an Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

Following Saraki’s defection to the PDP, there has been calls from some people for him to resign as senate president.

6. Saraki meets Jonathan behind closed doors

The senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, yesterday held a closed door meeting with former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Abuja.

Information about the meeting was disclosed by the Special Assistant on New Media to the President of the Senate Olu Onemola.

7. United States promise not to interfere in Nigeria’s 2019 elections

The United States Government has promised to give all support necessary for the success of the 2019 general election in Nigeria.

Aruba Amirthanayagam, who is Counselor for Public Affairs, US Embassy, said this while speaking in Minna, Niger State.

8. Armed men attack Plateau state, kill 8, burn 95 houses

An invasion on Abonong and Zayit communities in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau by bandits have left eight people dead, with 95 houses destroyed.

According to the Public relation Officer of Plateau State Police Command, Mr Terna Tyopev, the communities were attacked in the early hours of Wednesday.

Tyopev revealed that 310 cows were also rustled, while three other persons were severely injured.

9. No President influenced my decision as CBN Governor – Sanusi

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, emir of Kano, has bragged that no president influenced his decisions unduly while he was governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This he said in an interview with CNBC Africa at the annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

He said the absence of political interference helped him to control inflation, fix banks and transform payment system.

10. APC set up 63-member campaign committee for Osun governorship election

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 63-member campaign committee to ensure the party’s victory in the September 22 governorship elections in the state.

The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, while inaugurating the committee, admonished members to mobilise the people of the state to vote for the APC.
