Actors Petition Disney To Rehire The Director

The movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has been put on hold after a small crew working for the pre-production of the movie was recently dismissed and permitted to seek a new work.

This is coming few days after Disney/Marvel confirmed that they will not be rehiring James Gunn as director.

The source who revealed the update to The Hollywood Reporter adds that the suspension of the production is only temporary, that the team is “regrouping”, although it is unclear when the crew would return to work. “The timeline has been pushed out,” the source told.

Recall that Disney removed James Gunn as the director after a slew of social media posts he wrote before getting Guardians of the Galaxy surfaced. These problematic tweets touched on rape and paedophilia.

Shortly after, Gunn issued a statement afterward, apologising for the things he had done in the past, saying: “My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

Some of the film’s stars like Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana spoke up for the director, and weeks ago, the entire cast petitioned Disney to rehire him, but their request was turned down by the board.

It was unclear as at press time if Dave Bautista will be starring in the upcoming part after saying he would not if Gunn’s script wasn’t used.
