Police Seize Imported Military Uniforms In Abia

A large number of military uniforms, allegedly imported from China and kept at a warehouse in Aba, the commercial hub Abia state has been seized by the state police.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, made this known at the Umuahia Central Police Station today as he briefed newsmen on the achievements recorded by the command in the fight against crime and criminality within the last two weeks.

Ogbii also stated that they arrested a man, one Michael Onuoha for alleged conspiracy, aiding and abetting the unlawful procurement, importation and possession of the uniforms, which were mainly camouflage.

He said the uniforms were shipped in a container to Apapa Port, Lagos by the Managing Director of Messrs U.U Iruoha, one Uche Iruoha, popularly called Urchman, after which they were transported to Aba in March.

According to the police commisioner, Onuoha was arrested on Aug. 16 but that Iruoha was still in China.

Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Ibrahim, the Commander, 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, who accompanied the police boss at the briefing, said the development has aroused serious worry in the Nigerian Army.

Ibrahim said that it is worrysome that some people would wear military uniforms to commit crimes in he country.

He said the Nigerian army would partner with the Police and and other security agencies to curb the menace and bring perpetrators to book.
