Islamization Agenda Of Nigeria Is A Political Lie

The  Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has described the fear by Christians in the North that there were moves by some forces to Islamise Nigeria as a dummy sold by those whose interest was to manipulate the Christian community to further their political and personal interests in the country.

Naija News learnt that Mustapha allayed this fear in his address at the opening ceremony of a two-day Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria conference held in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday.

According to him, the Christians in the North, over the years, had been suffering from that siege mentality of an impending Islamisation of Nigeria. But he noted that from the evidence before him, nobody could Islamise Nigeria.

He recalled that the application to become a member of the Organisation of Islamic Countries started under the regime of former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, in 1969.

Also, he said, the issue of Sharia in the North came into being under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime, and wondered why some people were pointing fingers at the current regime of President Muhammadu Buhari regarding an Islamic agenda in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government remained committed to ending the current insecurity facing the country.

He assured his audience that the current security challenges would soon be over as the government was doing everything humanly possible to tackle them.

“I call on the Church to always speak the truth at all times; nobody can kill the gospel; let’s continue to be our brother’s keepers at all times and continue to preach peace,” he said.

Mustapha further said: “We must reject those who propagate hatred, ethnicity, divisiveness, sectionalism or seek to manipulate religious differences for political gains.”

Simon Lalong, the Plateau State governor, in his opening address at the occasion said in the last one month, the state government had concentrated their efforts on establishing the vital nexus that would help them identify the key roles that they had to play as a government in driving the peace process on the Plateau through diverse approach which should help them to consolidate on the gains they had made so far.

“Today, we are further making a resolve to add value to the commitment of government in being part of the solution that will promote peaceful existence and religious harmony beyond Plateau,” he said.

According to him, “The theme of this summit is no doubt apt and draws to mind the essence of peace and security as a panacea for sustainable development beyond our state.  “We remain resolute in our commitment to building an enduring legacy of peace beyond Plateau and we shall not relent in exploring all avenues that will help us in the sustenance of peace and security.”
