Violent protest by students of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi has led to a shut down of the institutions by authorities.

Naija News learnt that the students were protesting a road accident which claimed the live of one student and left six others critically injured while they were going to school on Wednesday.

Udeh (the dead victim) died after he and the other six students involved in the accident were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi. The other six are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Naija News gathered that the accident occurred when the tyre of the bus conveying the students bursted and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The students alleged that the hospital staff delayed his treatment and that lead to his death.

The injured students are Luther Laangi, a 200 Level Agricultural and Environmental Engineering student; Onuiigya Magida, 200 Level Animal Production; Cecilia Okori, 200 Level Fisheries; Patience Idoko, 200 Level Animal Production, and Emmanuel Omeh, 300 Level Animal Nutrition.

Following Udeh’s death, the students became furious and started vandalizing parked vehicles and other facilities in sight, while the bus which caused the accident was set on fire.

The students reportedly damaged items at the hospital and also accused its staff of causing Udeh’s death.

The school authority ordered the students to proceed on mid-semester break with immediate effect, in an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar of the institution, Helen Nyitse.
