Job Applicant Arraigned For Robbing Motorcyclist

Mohammed Ibrahim, a 23-year-old job applicant, who allegedly robbed a commercial motorcyclist, today has appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge.

Ibrahim, who lives in Ajah, Lagos, was charged with robbing Mr Abdulmimum Isah of a motorcycle, but he pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of assault, robbery and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 21 at Ajah.

Awase submitted that the accused armed himself with a hammer to rob Isah of the motorcycle worth N218,000.

“The accused flagged down the complainant, pretending to be a passenger, and the complainant stopped to carry him.

“He told the complainant to take him to a location; when they got to a lonely place, he brought out a hammer he hid under his clothes and struck the complainant on his head.

“The complainant fell down immediately and the accused rode off the motorcycle.

“The complainant managed to shout: “Thief, thief” in order to get help.

“Fortunately, people chased the accused with another motorcycle; he fell down when he wanted to cross a gutter, and was apprehended.

“The motorcycle and hammer were recovered,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravene Sections 173, 287 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She added that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 10 for hearing.
