1. Presidency blames Saraki for delay in INEC budget

The presidency on Sunday, absolved President Muhammadu Buhari of any blame for the seemingly late presentation of the budget of the electoral commission, INEC, for the 2019 election.

Rather, the presidency, in a statement by presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu, laid the blame at the feet of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

2. Third mainland bridge to be closed for four days

The Lagos state government has announced the third Mainland Bridge will be closed for four days to enable contractors to assess the true state of the bridge, after which work would commence by the end of the year or early 2019.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, explained that the closure would be effective from midnight of August 23 to midnight of August 26.

3. INEC suspends Rivers bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it suspended the by-elections of the Port Harcourt state constituency III because of widespread violence and electoral fraud allegedly aided and abetted by security agencies.

Addressing a press conference on the election in Port Harcourt yesterday, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obo Effanga, said the commission had no other option than to suspend the election because it did not meet the minimum standards due to widespread violence and snatching of card readers and ballot boxes by politicians aided by armed uniformed security personnel.

4. Tinubu says Saraki, Tambuwal left APC because of automatic ticket

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has opened up on the recent defections in the polity, saying Senate President Bukola Saraki and Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal among others left the APC because the party could not offer them what they wanted.

He said on Sunday in Lagos that the defectors wanted automatic tickets and sharing of the national wealth which the APC could not guarantee.

5. Buhari threatens to jail more corrupt Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is going to jail more of the thieves that brought economic problems to the country.

The president made the statement on his arrival from the United Kingdom where he spent his 10-day vacation.

6. Oyo state government demolishes Aiyefele’s radio station

The Oyo state government on Sunday, demolished the Music House, a building owned by a popular Juju musician, Yinka Ayefele.

The building which is located along Challenge Toll Gate Express Way houses Ayefele’s radio station, Fresh FM, Ibadan, and is reportedly worth N800m.

7. President Buhari writes National Assembly on resumption of duty as Nigeria’s President

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a letter to the National Assembly notifying the legislative arm of government that he has resumed his duties as President and Commander-in- Chief.

This follows the completion of his 10-day working leave during which Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was in acting capacity.

8. Senators tell APC, Saraki is not the party’s problem

Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamma Misau and his counterpart in the Committee on Banking, Finance and Other Financial Insitutions, Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim have advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leaders to desist from looking for scapegoats for the failure to fulfill their promises to the electorate by constantly blaming Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Misau and Rafiu in a statement stated that the APC leaders have continued to whine about what Saraki did or did not do to ensure the Buhari government failed.
