1. Presidency explains why Buhari is yet to sign 2018 electoral amendment bill

The Presidency has spoken out on the report alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, described the allegations that the President declined assent to the Bill as wild and baseless, saying the President is still studying the bill.

2. INEC officials meet NASS over 2019 electoral budget

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by its chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, yesterday met with lawmakers from both chambers of the National Assembly.

INEC met with the lawmakers to defend its budget for the 2019 general elections in the country.

3. Saraki may contest 2019 presidential election

Reports have emerged that Senate President, Bukola Saraki may contest the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria.

The report however stated that Saraki is still making consultations and is yet to officially declare his 2019 presidential ambition.

4. Osinbajo presides over FEC weekly meeting

Not less than 28 ministers attended the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chamber Presidential Villa Abuja on Wednesday.

The unprecedented number of ministers at the FEC may be connected to the ‘no nonsense’ stance of the Acting President since President Muhammadu Buhari left for a 10-working day vacation in London, United Kingdom.

5. INEC budgets N6bn to feed police during 2019 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has budgeted the sum of N6bn to feed policemen during the 2019 general elections in the country.

This was disclosed during the commission’s budget defence with the Electoral Committee members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

6. Presidency deny Buhari would extend his London vacation beyond 10 days

President Muhammadu Buhari has not extended his London vacation, the Presidency said last night.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said there was nothing like that, after reports filtered in especially on social media that the President’s vacation has been extended.

7. INEC registers 23 new political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has on Tuesday, approved the registration of 23 new political parties in the country.

A total of 144 political associations submitted applications to be registered as political parties, but only 23 met all conditions for registration, bringing the number of political parties in Nigeria to 91.

8. Saraki is not APC’s problem, youths fire Oshiomole

The Arewa Youths for Peace and Security (AYPS), a coalition of Northern groups and associations, has warned that Senate President Bukola Saraki and other leadership of the Senate cannot be removed illegally.

The youths took particular exception to statements by APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomole on Saraki’s removal, stressing that Saraki is not APC’s problem.

9. EFCC demand minutes of security meetings in Benue state

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has demanded that the government of Benue state release details of the state’s security meetings.

Terver Akase, spokesman of Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, disclosed this to newsmen, stating that the anti-graft agency requested details of the meetings between 2015 and 2018.

10. Victor Moses retires from international football

Super Eagles player, and Chelsea player, Victor Moses, has announced his retirement from international football.

The decision to end his play time for his country was announced on his Instagram page, he took the opportunity to reveal that he wants to give opportunities to younger players and focus on club football.
