Afeez Olatinwo, a 26-year-old butcher, who allegedly broke into a house and stole N260,000 valuables, was today bought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Olatinwo, who resides at Owodunni Street, Alagbado in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of house-breaking and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the accused broke into the house of the complainant, Mrs Juliana Akinola, to steal the valuables.

Police prosecutor, Insp. Abiola Adewale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 24, at No. 1, Unity Ave. Owodunni, Alagbado in Lagos.

Adewale said that the accused stole one plasma television, a generator, one camera, one laptop and some vital documents valued at N260, 000.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr W. A. Salami, admitted him to a bail of N70,000, with two sureties each in like sum.

Salami said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He said their addresses should be verified by the court and they must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The offences violate Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

Section 287 stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders while section 307 provides three years for house-breaking.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 24, for hearing.
