1. There is no pressure on Buhari to drop second term ambition

The Presidency on Tuesday has refuted claims on some media platforms that the United States and United Kingdom were pressuring President Muhammadu Buhari to trash his 2019 bid for a second term in office.

Mr. Femi Adesina, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a press statement, stated that there is no truth in the claims.

2. Acting President Osinbajo orders immediate re-organization of SARS

Acting President Yemi Osinabjo has ordered an immediate investigation into the alleged violations and intimidation by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police.

The order follows several complaints by Nigerians over the activities of the SARS officials.

3. INEC extends voters registration by two weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks.

INEC had earlier set an August 17 deadline for the continuous voter registration exercise.

4. Court insists IGP must arrest INEC chairman, Mahmmod Yakubu

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, to see to it that he arrest and produce the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in court on August 16.

The court insists that the appeal court order setting aside its arrest order has not been communicated to it.

5. Saraki, Dogara explain why National Assembly can’t reconvene yet

President of The Senate, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have disclosed why a date is yet to be set for the reconvening of the National Assembly to consider the 2019 general elections budget.

Their statement says the committee in charge is yet to submit its report, hence no need to reconvene the lawmakers.

6. Court dismisses murder charge against Lagos PDP chairman, Salvador

The murder charge filed against Mr Moshood Salvador, the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has been dismissed by an Ikeja High Court.

He was earlier remanded in the Kirikiri Prisons following his arraignment at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court alongside ten others on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful killing on July 25.

7. Saraki wants Buhari to set up independent panel of inquiry on NASS invasion

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari, to set up an independent judicial panel of inquiry into the assault on the National Assembly by masked gunmen.

The NASS invasion prevented lawmakers, legislative aids and other staff from entering the NASS complex.

8. Court stops Kwara Assembly from investigating Saheed Popoola

Justice T.S. Umar, of an Ilorin High Court, Kwara State has restrained, on Tuesday, the Kwara State House of Assembly from suspending the member representing Balogun/Ojomu constituency of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Saheed Popoola.

The only All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker in the state House of Assembly have been placed under suspension by the house.

9. PDP won’t change its name and logo

Alhaji Sule Lamido, a presidential Aspirant of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that the party would not, in a bid to satisfy the request of those seeking its membership, change the name and logo of the party.

Lamido insisted that the party would not change all that it is known for or stands for to suit those planning to join the party.

10. FIFA threatens to suspend Nigeria and Ghana over football leadership crisis

Nigeria and Ghana have been threatened with a ban from the World football governing body, FIFA, on Tuesday, if they fail to comply with the instructions of the body.

FIFA, in a statement by its Media Office, said it had been notified about ongoings in the two federations, and it viewed them as “undue interference in their affairs’’.
