1. FG to give 2 million petty traders loan without collateral

The Nigerian Federal Government has launched a new initiative under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme to empower two million petty traders between now and the end of the year.

Called the Trader Moni, the initiative when commenced will further enlarge the present administration’s financial inclusion agenda for all Nigerians regardless of social class and economic status.

2. Senate President Saraki, visits Chief Obasanjo

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has explained the purpose of his closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

While addressing the press after the meeting on Monday evening, Saraki explained that he was with Obasanjo to make up for his absence during the formal inauguration of the Presidential library held last year.

3. DSS disowns fake news and videos on Daura’s arrest

The Department of State Services (DSS) has drawn attention to the circulation of fake information and videos in which several items were said to have been recovered from the Katsina and Abuja homes of its immediate past Director General, Lawal Daura.

These non-existent items include: Twenty One Billion Naira (N21bn) cash; 400 assorted and sophisticated small arms and light weapons/rifles; and Thousands of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) belonging to Niger Republic immigrants.

4. Buhari may retain Osinbajo as running mate in 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari may retain Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as his running mate in the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria.

The hint was dropped by Mallam Garba Shehu, media aide to President Buhari while reacting to the string of victories recorded by the APC in the bye-elections conducted over the weekend.

5. Appeal Court stops Police from arresting INEC boss, Mahmood Yakubu

A Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has stopped the arrest order issued against the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu.

Naija News recalls that a federal high Court had last week ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to arrest the INEC boss and produce him in court on August 14 to face contempt charge for violating its order.

6. R-APC wants IGP sacked and Akpabio’s seat declared vacant

The Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) has asked Senate President Bukola Saraki to declare the seat of Godswill Akpabio, former minority leader of the upper legislative chamber, vacant.

The faction also called on The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to sack the Police Boss, Ibrahim Idris for incompetence.

7. Nigerian Senate releases scorecard of achievements in 3 years

The Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki, has released list of achievements by the lawmakers under the eighth national assembly.

As part of achievements listed, the 8th Senate has passed 229 Bills and 155 petitions; exposed high levels of corruption in government, and worked to create more opportunities for all Nigerians through its legislative interventions.

8. Aminu Tambuwal visits Atiku Abubakar in Abuja

Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, visited former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja on Sunday night, in what is reported to be in consultation ahead of 2019 elections.

The two are among the several 2019 presidential aspirants who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

9. Presidency says APC’s victory in bye-elections is a sign of victory in 2019

The Presidency has reacted to the All Progressives Congress (APC) victories at recent bye-elections in the country.

Briefing State House correspondents, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said that the victories is an indication that Buhari and Osinbajo have a better chance in the 2019 presidential election.

10. Fire destroys fish market in Borno state

Fire has destroyed about 21 shops at the fish market in Maiduguri on Sunday night.

Mr Ambursa Pindar, the Public Relations Officer of Borno State Fire Service, on Monday, confirmed the fire outbreak in the fish market.
