2023: Presidential Candidate Gets Summon From Party Over 'Slow Preparations'

YPP Urges Youth To Disregard Buhari’s Statement Against Contesting For Presidency In 2019

Three governorship aspirants in Enugu State, ahead of the 2019 general elections, have indicated their interest to run under the platform of the Young Progressive Party.

Comrade Chibuzo Onyije, the Chairman of YPP in the state revealed this while speaking with journalists after the official dedication of the secretariat of the party in the State on Saturday.

Onyije, said the three aspirants are capable of doing better than the incumbent governor of the state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, if elected as the governor.

He revealed that the party is fully on ground in the state and prepared to take over power from the Peoples Democratic Party, which they claimed over almost two decades has not brought changes to the lives of the people.

We are on the ground and we will remain on our own. We are not merging with any political party even in the next hundred years. Once we achieve what we want, we are okay. Our objective is to extend membership of YPP to the young ones and we are getting the results,” Onyije said.

Venerable Jonathan Agbo urged the youths to look beyond just running for office and aim to occupy and rule.

If you want to run, after running, what is next? You should aim to occupy. Gowon was less than thirty years when he became Military Head of State. Buhari was 27 years old when he became a Minister. I am not comfortable with ‘Not Too Young to Run’. I want the youths too to rule,” Agbo said.

He advised youth not to stand in respect to the statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari, urging youth not to contest for presidency in the 2019 general election.

He said while President Buhari claims to be a progressive, he appears to be retrogressive in thinking, adding that it smacks of insincerity for him to ask the youths not to run for the presidency in 2019.
