New DSS Boss Promises To Reform DSS

Mathew Seiyifa, acting director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS), has said he will look into the complaints of human rights abuse filed against the service.

The secret police has been accused of disregarding the rule of law and arbitrary arrest for three years.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Seiyifa said the service would take a different approach under him, while promising to collaborate with other security agencies in security management and to promote national interest.

He said that the DSS would not allow any intimidation in the discharge of its role in line with the rule of law.

Seiyifa was appointed following the sack of Lawal Daura who took over from Ita Ekpeyong.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo ordered the dismissal of Daura after DSS operatives invaded the national assembly and prevented some lawmakers from going into the chamber on Tuesday.
