A man, Uchenna Obidile, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a 40-foot container containing N35 million motorcycle tyres.

The State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti-Yaba, Lagos brought Obidile, also called ‘Olowun’, before the court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the Prosecuting Inspector Adebayo Oladele, Obidile and others who are presently at large committed the offence July 20, 2017, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

The container-laden truck which is owned by Chief Ralph C. Obi was snatched by the accused and his accomplices shortly after it was delivered to Apapa Wharf.

The Nation gathered that Mrs. Yetunde Longe, the Deputy Commissioner in-Charge of SCIID, Panti ordered an investigation into the issue shorty after a petition was sent to her by Chief Obi.

The Prosecuting Inspector stated that the offences committed by the defendant was contrary to Section 411 and 287(5) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Obidile’s counsel, Spourgeon Ataene who assured the court that his client would come for trial, prayed further that he should be granted bail, after his client, Obidile, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of 1 Million, in addition to two responsible sureties in the like sum.

He remanded Obidile in prison custody pending the satisfaction of the bail terms and adjourned till September 5, for trial.
