The police commissioner also noted that the bandits fled after killing three persons, following the arrival of the security operatives.  He said the team of security personnel deployed in the areas would comb the bush in the communities with the aim of arresting the perpetrators of the attacks.

But eyewitnesses said the bandits also invaded Farin Zare, Orawa, and Sabon Gari villages also in Gidan Goga district. They claimed the attacks were carried out simultaneously in the early hours of Tuesday, while many villagers were wounded in the process.

The locals said the invaders stormed the villages on motorbikes, shooting sporadically at residents and carting away their livestock.

One of the villagers said 30 people were killed across the villages during the attacks, although the police authorities insisted that three people died.

Suspected armed bandits and cattle rustlers had killed at least 30 people when they invaded Malikawa village in the same district in May.
