1. Nigeria unveils name and logo of new national carrier

The federal government has announced the new name and unveiled the logo for the nation’s new national carrier as “Nigeria Air.”

Minister of state for transportation, Hadi Sirika, made the disclosure in London yesterday at the Farborough Air fair.

2. Details of new minimum wage to be revealed in August – TUC

The President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Mr Bobboi Kaigama, has announced that a new amount agreed on by the Federal Government and labour to serve as Nigeria’s new minimum wage, would be announced next month.

Bobboi disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos yesterday, saying deliberations are reaching advanced stages.

3. INEC issues certificate of return to Kayode Fayemi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a Certificate of Return to Dr Kayode Fayemi, the winner of the governorship election in Ekiti State.

INEC National Commissioner, Mr Solomon Soyebi, presented the certificate to the governor-elect amid a crowd of supporters at the commission’s headquarters in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

4. APC postpones Osun governorship primaries till Friday

The primary election to elect the candidate that would represent the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Osun governorship election have been shifted to Friday July 20, from the 19th of July.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi on Wednesday in Abuja, made the announcement of the postponement.

5. Police parades eight suspects alleged to be involved in kidnap of Chibok girls

Another set of persons suspected to have taken part in the kidnap of the 276 Chibok schoolgirls in Borno state have been paraded by the Nigerian Police in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The eight suspected Boko Haram terrorists who are among 22 persons paraded, were said to have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General’s Intelligence Response Team (IGP’s IRT) in Borno, Adamawa and other adjoining communities.

6. Miyetti Allah not responsible for killings – Farmers’ association

According to the President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kabir Ibrahim, Fulani herdsmen are not responsible for the incessant and wanton attacks on farmers and communities.

The Association also said that they were willing to work with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to bring the perpetrators to book.

7. Military arrests seven more suspects in connection with Plateau killings

Seven additional suspects in connection with the recent attacks on some communities in Plateau State have been arrested by the Military.

Brigadier General John Agim, Director of Defence Information, made this known while parading the suspects in Jos on Tuesday in the state capital.

8. Ekiti state assembly rejects governorship election result, adjourns till October

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have disagreed and rejected the result of last Saturday governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The assembly also adjourned sitting till October 8, 2018, due to alleged harassment of members by security agents.

9. Judge threatens to jail INEC boss, Prof. Yakubu for contempt

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has requested for the presence of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to appear before it.

Justice Stephen Dalyop Pam ordered him to appear on August 1 to show reasons why he should not be committed to prison for allegedly violating valid court orders. The judge dismissed a preliminary objection by the INEC boss for being already in contempt of the court.

10. Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Ibrahim Gbadamosi meet in Minna

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, met with former President Ibrahim Babangida, at his Uphill home in Minna, Niger State.

Jonathan, who came to Niger by road, arrived IBB’s home at about 10am for the meeting that lasted almost two hours.
