1. President Buhari sends supplementary budget to National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari today sent an amended budget to the National Assembly for consideration to prosecute the 2019 elections.

It will be recalled that the President, while signing the 2018 budget, said that he will send a supplementary budget due to several concerns about some of the changes made by the lawmakers in the 2018 budget.

2. Senate confirms former IG, Musiliu Smith as chairman of police service commission

The Senate has confirmed former Inspector-General of Police, Musiliu Smith as the chairman of the Police Service Commission.

He had earlier been nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari who sent his name for confirmation by the lawmakers.

3. I will tell you when I’m ready to leave APC – Saraki

Dr. Bukola Saraki, the President of the Nigerian Senate has, on Tuesday revealed that he would let Nigerians know when he is ready to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Saraki made this known at the Ilorin International airport, in Kwara State, when asked by journalists what he will do over pressure by some of his followers to lead them out of the APC.

4. Court adjourns Sen. Jang’s case till October as EFCC fails to present witnesses

The Plateau State High Court has threatened to strike out the criminal case against Senator Jonah David Jang, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if the commission continues to delay proceeding with flimsy excuses.

Justice Daniel Longji, who said this while speaking on the failure of the anti graft agency to produce witnesses, explained that he has the constitutional right to strike out the case.

5. Death toll increases to 49 in Katsina rain storm

Death toll resulting from a heavy downpour in Katsina, close to Nigeria’s border with Niger has risen to 49, while 20 others have been reported missing.

The Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) yesterday confirmed more than twenty persons killed in a ravaging flood that swept through five villages in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

6. Buhari promises free and fair elections in 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to do everything possible to ensure that the 2019 general elections in Nigeria are free, fair and peaceful.

He said this while delivering a keynote address at the ICC in Netherlands, noting all hands were on deck to forestall the violence that characterised the 2011 elections which necessities investigations by the International Criminal Court.

7. House of Reps set up committee to investigate FG’s spending of recovered loots

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said that Parliament will not continue to look on as confusion trails the recovery of looted funds and assets.

This, he said, at a public hearing by the House Joint Committee on Public Accounts and Finance on the need to ascertain the status of recovered Public funds and assets from 1999 to date.

8. Army says Boko Haram making attempts to regroup in Borno state

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas and the military squad fighting insurgency in the northeast, has alerted that some Boko Haram members are regrouping around Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

General Nicholas said that some of the regrouping members were those who attacked Nigeria military troops in a Bama village, on Saturday, but where repelled.

9. Ekiti state house of assembly adjourns till October over governorship result

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has rejected the results of Saturday’s governorship election and adjourned legislative business until October 8, citing issues of harassment and insecurity.

The house, by the resolution, will only resume duties a week to the expiration of the tenure of the governor, Ayo Fayose.

10. APC has performed below expectation – Jerry Gana

Prof. Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information, has said that the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led federal government have performed far below the expectations of Nigerians.

The former minister made this known in Makurdi on Monday, during his interactions with newsmen on the sidelines of the Middle Belt Forum mega rally.
